1st Vice President's Message |

A message from 1st Vice President, Glenn Ebersold 2010 and beyondThere’s an old 1960’s song that says “we gotta say good bye to the summer.” For a lot of us in the North Central Regional Chapter, the prospect of that happening and the reality of winter not being far off is a little depressing. It’s also a little scary on how fast 2010 passed, but gives us a little time to reflect before 2011 arrives. The most recent auto theft statistics show auto thefts are at a 20 year low. At first blush, we seem to be making a difference. There were still about a million cars stolen, but we’re heading in the right direction. 2010 marked the first time we ever partnered with other chapters to put on a conference. For those of you who may have missed it, the North Central Regional Chapter partnered with the North East Regional Chapter and the Ohio Auto Theft Investigators Association for an auto theft conference held in Cleveland, Ohio. We had over 425 folks attend. It was a great opportunity to meet folks in other chapters, development some contacts, find out what challenges they’re facing, or share ideas on combating auto theft. With all the great sessions that were taking place simultaneously throughout the conference, my only regret was not being able to get to them all. We’re currently finalizing plans to hold our 2011 conference in Lexington, Kentucky. I know budgets are tight and expenses are closely scrutinized, but this really is one of the best values out there for the money you spend. We continue to look for locations which are affordable as well as putting together an agenda with topics which are current and relevant to assist you in your job. Allocate the money today. Finding success on one claim or case will more than pay for the conference. IAATI has chosen North Central as it’s host location for 2012. A final location has not been determined at this time. More information will be coming out, but consider this unique opportunity as part of your 2012 planning. So while we “gotta say goodbye to the summer”, 2010 has been a pretty good year. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Lexington in 2011. Glenn Ebersold
