A message from 1st Vice President, Bob Vogt

Well, if you missed the 2008 East Saint Louis NCRC Conference, don’t let it happen again!  Second Vice President Barb Rambo and the on-site committee did an excellent job attracting talented, knowledgeable speakers to an exciting venue and all at a reasonable cost.  Isn’t that what the NCRC is all about?

This year we also had the privilege to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of two of Michigan’s finest ATPA sponsored auth theft units.  By unanimous agreement of the selection committee, the Robert Sattler award for investigative success went to the Western Wayne (county) Auto Theft Unit and the Macomb County Auto Theft Squad. With special kudos to Sgt. Robert Wellman, these units stopped a million dollar key cutting scam in full stride. Their efforts exemplify the real meaning of cooperation and stand as a good lesson for all of us (see elsewhere in this issue of Recover for the full details).

And how about the new and improved NCRC website?!!  Have you seen it yet?? Now incorporating the contents of Recover and soon to include an expanded membership roster, our on-line auto theft connection promises to be more informative, more current and more accessible to those with even basic computer savvy. Sign on, get your password and enjoy.

Finally, as this goes to print, efforts to confirm the site selection of next year’s Midwest Auto Theft Conference are well along.  The NCRC will soon be fifty years young…. a pretty good accomplishment for any association, don’t you think? How about signing up one or two of your compatriots and make plans with them to attend next year’s seminar?  You won’t be sorry!
